LIFE DRAWING

More from my life drawing sketchbook today, this time of the male model. Don't get much reaction to the life drawing here these days, but i know a couple of people who like seeing it, so i'll keep posting it from time to time.

Don't forget Tuesday means Tuesdec on the Eclectic Micks blog.

LIFE DRAWING

More from the auld life drawing sketchbook. Haven't been to a class since i started 28 Days Later, but i'll get back to it once the summer's over. Like how i managed to keep things simple with this one.

LIFE DRAWING

Well, i've been on 28 Days Later for over 2 weeks and i finally missed a day to post (Saturday), which, i suppose isn't too bad. I'm not doing much other than 28DL interior pages and pieces for the Eclectic Micks blog, so i don't have much to post here. Still, i'm not completely out; here's more life drawing.

I quite like this drawing. As i was close to the model, her legs were really foreshortened to my eye. Of course, in the drawing, they look huuuuge, but that's what they actually looked like from where i was sitting. I did no roughs/pencils for this, i just got a dip pen and drew straight onto the page. It probably show in how quick and loose the lines are. Wish i had the confidence to draw like this more often.

LIFE DRAWING

Here's more life drawing. With this pose i first did a rough drawing to get the gesture of the body, then a loose, but more confident drawing, adding some tone in greywash/ Not sure why i drew the shadow on the wall with black instead of grey, but i think it somehow works.

MORE LIFE DRAWING

Had another life drawing class yesterday, but here's more from last week's one. When you're time is limited sometimes you have decide between a line drawing or a tonal one. I was pretty happy i had enough time with this pose as i managed to do both.

LIFE DRAWING

Went to another life drawing class this week that went really well. The last few times i was happy with about 30% of the drawings, yet was happy i'd learned a few more things. This time i still learned quite a bit, but i was actually happy with 80% of what i drew. Here's one of the drawings i think turned out pretty well. I'm sure i'll post more down the line.

TORSO-TASTIC

Did some more life drawing this week. Male model this time, so it gave me a chance to work on some areas that needed more study. This was supposed to be a quick, full-body sketch, but i found the shoulders and upper torso really interesting so concentrated on them while i had the chance.

MORE LIFE DRAWING

Here's two more drawings form the week's life drawing class. These two were from near the end of the class. They were longer poses, but because of where i sat there was less information to draw (first pose is mostly her back, second pose was mostly obstructed by the chair). Given the limitation, i decided to try and draw the pose in a couple of different mediums, instead of just using the technical pencil i had been depending on for most of the class. Got some interesting results.

With the first pose, i concentrated just on line with the pen, then on basic shadow with the brush-pen and finally, having a good understanding of the pose, went in and emphasized all the subtle shadows.

With the second pose, i first did a toned pencil drawing (not posted here), but feeling brave, i whipped out the brush-pen and did a much looser drawing, then did the same with a pen. Got some varied results which i all found interesting. Have to say, i really enjoyed the class and it pushed me to think a lot more about what i was drawing, which is really refreshing when you're used to drawing from your head all day, every day.

LIFE DRAWING

The very talented (and fragrant) Stephen Thompson and Lisa Jackson gave me the heads-up on some life drawing sessions during the week. Was delighted, as i've been hoping to do more life drawing; the last time i did some was back when i was in Scotland. I actually surprised myself; i was sure i'd be doing lots of quick pen-drawings (as i prefer sketching in pen), where in fact for the most part i ended up doing some refined, shaded drawings.

Here's 3 drawings i'm happy with.

Also, was very flattered to get a cameo of sorts in Andrew and Chris Judge's DYSTOPIA. Thanks a million guys; nice one! The strip will appear in this month's issue of Totally Dublin.
