Work In Progress.

This is a page with a zombified head in a box. Script called for his head to be smashed in showing eaten brains. Need some brain reference first, but is this gruesome enough. What exactly does a smashed in skull look like. I've only smashed a few in my years and i didn't take much notice at the time.

Inks to Zombie cover .

Inked the cover last night. If you have a good look, you can see i changed a few things during the inking process. Changed the rips on the 3rd zombies sleeve, changed the blood splatters a bit and added more gore to the main, 'boss' zombie.
This was fun.

Zombie Cover.

Cover sketch and pencils for the Zombie project i'm working on in my own time.
The cover's a riff on the poster for the classic movie The Untouchables.
Had a lot of fun drawing this, looking forward to inking it.

I swear, for someone who never drew a zombie til a few months ago, i sure have ended up having to draw a lot of 'em.

Atricle featuring Hero Killers.

Something else on the Silver Bullet Comics website.

An article that goes on about Hero Killers a bit. It's always good to see people are reading the book, and moreso, liking it.

New Hero Killers Review.

At Aint it Cool News;

http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=24263#14

Says some good things. My favourite, "the character designs and powers are pretty original and I’d hate to never see them again." Although i can't clain any credit for coming up with the powers, i had a lot of fun designing the characters. Worked hard at it too, so its great to read that people are appreciating them. I know it'd probably be possible to do a Hero Killers follow up, story-wise, but i just wouldn't have the time to draw it, which is a shame, cuz i'd really love to.

Freak Show #1 finished!

Aside from the lettering that is.

Again, i don't want to put too many pages up, defeats the point of printing it that way, but here's one page, the first appearance of Elizabeth, one of the main characters, as drawn by me. Very happy with the issue overall. Lettering will no doubt be headwrecking, but should have it done before too long. Can't wait to see it in print.

Wrapping up Freak Show #1

Nearly finished #1. Will probably post one more page but leave it at that. No point in showing the last pages of a story. What's the point?
Also, a little sketch of that 'future' thing i mentioned. I'll title it 'Felon' for now, just so i can talk about it without having to describe it each time.
Still working at a nice pace now. Should have a page finished by the time the Big Brother final is over, or at least, Big Mouth is over.
What will i do without my daily Russel Brand fix?

Probably get more work done in a day to be honest.

Later.

Future Sketches.

Sketches for a futuristic thingy i'm working on on the side, which I shall elaborate on no further.

It's a good day when I can get a page of Freak Show pencilled and inked, Watch Big Brother's Big Mouth, and still have time to read a couple of scripts and get some concept work done.

Good day indeed.

Title page from Freak Show.

Don't want to show too much from Freak Show, otherwise no one will buy the book, but here's a page done recently that i'm happy with.

HERO KILLERS

As i may have mentioned, my first published comic is called Hero Killers, and is published by Moonface press. It's been picked up by Diamond, the only comics distributor, which is a huge achievement bt a small press book. Well, in order to promote it, Andy Winter, the writer, had launched a mini-website. There's links to both the hero Killers site and the Moonface Press sites in the links section on the left.
Check them out. If our roles were reversed, i'd check them out for you!
If childlike logic doesn't do it for you, then maybe credible reviews will. Below are links to comic book review sites, with their comments on Hero Killers, also review by Comics International, the UK's biggest comics magazine.

"Saint Inc. specialise in eliminating superheroes, but their latest case proves to be a challenge. Devilchild writer Andy Winter delivers a well-structured one-shot tale with shades of 2000AD's Zenith and the good bits of Mark Millar's Wanted. Declan Shalvey also impresses with dramatic and energetic art. 8 out of 10" ---Comics International

Pin-ups and Sketches.

Was at a signing in Scotland a couple of months ago. Got some pin-ups done just beforehand. Your average joe always seem to prefer a pin-up to a sequential page, so in order to please the general public, i did these. Included are a couple of sketches i was asked to do. Enjoy.

There's that Bat-fella, John Constantine, Daredevil, Black Widow, Number Six, Venom, Doctor Who, The Sandman and of course, Wolverine.

Here's some old work. Believe it or not i actually have a Degree in Fine Art Printmaking. Here's some work from my final year. They're all lithographs and screenprins.

New Freak Show pages. Need i say more?

Thursday, August 03, 2006

Making some progress with Freak Show again. Here's a sneak peak at some panels of the pages i'm working on. Sometimes I do a drawing and want to start inking it straight away. It's generally a bad idea. Inking and pencilling shouldn't be done at the same time, it takes me twice as long to finish a page that way. Anyway, this explains why a couple of the panels have the blacks outlined. It does help me figure out how the balance of blacks will look on the page but as i said, it's best to leave that process 'til the pencils are finished.

Sometimes i can't help myself.

Here's the final coloured version of the Hero Killers website pin-up.
I quite like the little blood splatter on the hero in the background, myself.
Once the site is up, i'll put up a link.
Toodles.

Here's some more Hero Killer character goodness.
Black and white line art for a pin-up too. I'll post the colours tomorrow.
