WINTER SOLDIER #15 COVER

It was just announced at FanExpo in Toronto that Jason Latour is taking over writing duties on WINTER SOLDIER. I'm happy to report that I'm providing covers for his first arc with the excellent colour work of Jordie Bellaire. Above is the cover for issue 15, our first issue.

Been working away on this piece for the last few days. I've been tipping away on a coloured version but to be honest, I'm just waiting on Jordie to wrap up her Doctor Strange book so she can make it look all pretty.

SWEET TOOTH and 2011 Wrap-up


Here's a SWEET TOOTH commission. For Jeff Lemire, no less. I was very flattered that Jeff asked for a piece of one of his characters by little old me.

This will be my final post of the year. And what a year it's been. Career highlights included my Crossbones one-shot came out and looked beau-ti-ful thanks to Matt Wilson. I got to draw T-bolts during the big Fear Itself event. I got to actually draw the X-Men in a Marvel comic; that was amazing. Drew the T-Bolts in Ireland, and Spidey in the same issue too! Drew an arc on Northlanders (one of my favourite books) for Vertigo.... it really was the year where I got to fulfil all my childhood aspirations.

So, thanks 2011. Hopefully in 2012 I'll get to do bigger, better and bolder things. My goal for 2012 is to do a comic project with Jordie. She's got great projects at Marvel right now, and I'm getting more and more frustrated that none of them are with me. Let's see if we can make it happen next year.

BETRAYAL OF THE PLANET OF THE APES #3 COVER



Here's the variant cover the Jordie and I did for Betrayal #3. Reeeaaallly happy with this one. I love design-heavy posters with limited colour palettes, but it can be tough to actually get those types of covers approved. Make sure you pick up the issue in a few weeks!

BETRAYAL OF THE PLANET OF THE APES



Next week #1 of BETRAYAL OF THE PLANET OF THE APES comes out from BOOM! Studios. It's written by Corinna Sara Bechko and Gabriel Hardman, illustrated by Gabe, with colours by (blog regular) Jordie Bellaire. I've seen Jordie work on all the pages and can honestly say it looks fantastic. Can't wait for everyone to see it. Make sure you get a copy!

Also, I'm doing the alternate covers for issues 2-4. The above image is the variant cover for #2, by myself and Jordie.

SIN/CROSSBONES

Jordie and I are attending the Lille Comics Festival in a few weeks (Nov 5th/6th). As such, we were asked to contribute artwork to be made into a lithograph print that will raise money for charity. The theme was 'villains'. This is what we came up with: a Crossbones/Sin piece. The Red Skull raised his ugly head too.

PIGS #1 VARIANT COVER


Hey there. PIGS #1 written by old friend Ben McCool and complete stranger Nate Cosby is out this week. The art is by Breno Tamura with colour by Chris Sotomayor. I've read the first issue and it's really, really good.

Myself and Jordie collaborated on this exclusive variant cover for it's first issue. We're really happy with it. Great job on the cover dress to by the way, whoever did it.

LEAGUE OF VOLUNTEERS #1 VARIANT COVER


Here's a cover I just finished for Rob Curley and Barry Keegan's League Of Volunteers. Issue 2 just came out but the book has been selling so well, they have to do another printing of the first issue. It's a lovely looking book, and it's great to see Rob expand the line of his Atomic Diner publishing line with this series, his Rósín Dubh series, and the upcoming Jennifer Wilde.

I think the last work I did for Rob was the cover to one of my Freak Show volumes. I'd like to think I've come on a bit since then.

WASTELAND

























Was asked by the good folks at Oni Press to contribute a piece for Wasteland: The Apocalyptic Edition Volume 2 by current Daredevil co-scribe Antony Johnson and Christopher Mitten. You can order it right here.

The above piece will accompany a prose section at the end of the book. I tried something a little different this time. Normally, i'd draw a foreground figure in black but went worth the opposite this time. I had to draw some dogs so i drew in multiple versions of Sasha, the dog we have at the house in New York. I'm gonna miss her when I come home.

(PLANNED) DUBLIN COMIC CON POSTER




















Howdy. Just put up the original layout for this piece on the Micks blog, but sure i might as well put the finished version up here while i'm at it. I made the main character a bit bigger than planned in the layout; a suggestion of Thompson's if i recall correctly. The two characters are from a planned graphic novel by a mate o' mine, so it's ultimately a bit of a fan pic, really. The Dublin Con was supposed to be on this month but was rescheduled. Instead, us Micks are doing this.

POE #1 COVER ART
























Hi; fancy seeing you here.

Along with the 28 Days Later book, i've also done a couple of covers for Boom Studio's new POE mini-series. Here's the black and white artwork for Issue One. The coloured cover and more on the book can be seen here. I saw some pages when asked to do the cover, and i have to say, i really liked the interior artist's work. Dean Kotz is his name, you can see some of his work here.

I really tried to make this cover stand out, so i went very design-y with the composition. Tried to add a lot of texture to compensate for the bold black and white areas too. Really like how it came out.

HI-EX POSTER ART
























This is artwork I did for next February's Hi-Ex in Inverness. I went to last years event and had an absolutely brilliant time. Unfortunately, I won't make it to the next event, but i was flattered to be asked to do the poster for it.

I really liked Rufus Dayglo's poster for last years event, so I kept it somewhat similar (ie, bold white background with characters to one side). Haven't drawn Judge Dredd too much so it was fun to have a try at him again. I also got to draw Tank Girl for the first time too, that was fun. I suppose the same could be said for the Loch Ness Monster.....

HAUNTED LIVERPOOL























Last weekend saw the launch of John Reppion's new book Haunted Liverpool, a book I did a couple of Illustrations for. John was good enough to send me a copy, and it looks great. One of my illustrations even got a full-page in the book, which i was delighted with.

The book also features illustrations by Andy Bloor, David Hitchcock, Juan Navarro, Leah Moore, Mo Ali and Oliver Redding. Check out the book's blog for more.

This is the second piece i did for Beatnik Games. I think the other image suited them better, but they seemed keen to have this idea fleshed out also. I'm quite happy with it; it's not as simplistic as the other piece (which is what i liked about that one) and has more involved drawing. Not sure which i prefer though.
