THIS WEEK; FINAL VENOM, 2D FESTIVAL AND ....... BATMAN!
This week my final issue of VENOM hits the stands. It's the final chapter of the 'Toxic' storyline; it's all been building to this! I've had a blast working on the series this year; from the stand alone issue with Rick Remender, to the Minimum Carnage crossover to this big epic Toxin arc, working on the series with writer Cullen Bunn has been a distinct pleasure. Lee Loughridge excellently matched the tone I was going for with this book, and Joe Caramagna did some gorgeous lettering work. Huge thanks to editor Tom Brennan for offering me the book and for all the encouragement along the way.
I hope you all enjoy the finale.
Also, the very next day sees my LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT story go online. Written by Robert T. Jeschonek with fantastic colours by Matt Wilson, I hope ye all download it via Comixology, or other such wonderful applications. Below is a sneak peek from the story.
But wait! There's more! This weekend is 2D Festival! An excellent FREE Comics Festival that takes place every year in Derry, Northern Ireland. I've been many times and have always had a fantastic experience. This year is 2D's biggest year so if possible I urge everyone to attend. There's a host of excellent panels and workshops; you can read all about them in the festival's excellent programme (see here). Did I mention it's FREE?
There's lots more about the festival on their website. As you can see, it's a busy week this week; plenty to keep you entertained :)

BATMAN!
Been working away on this piece for the last few days. I've been tipping away on a coloured version but to be honest, I'm just waiting on Jordie to wrap up her Doctor Strange book so she can make it look all pretty.

BATMAN AND ROBIN

I don't update this blog with new artwork that much; it's generally coloured versions of Eclectic Micks pieces, or Comic Twart pieces, or preview pages shown online, so here is a piece to make up for it.

PS. Coming soon; more coloured versions of Eclectic Micks pieces, Comic Twart pieces, and preview pages shown online

C2E2 SKETCH

I nearly forgot about this one. Did this sketch at the C2E2 convention in Chicago last month for Kate at BOOM! Studios who took care of myself and Will over the weekend. Drew her as an Infected. She's a Batman fan too, i'll take any opportunity to draw Batman so stuck him in there too.

2D SKETCHES: PART TWO (MORE BATMAN)
Here's some more sketches from the 2D Festival; all of them of Batman. Batman is a good default character for me to sketch; everyone knows him and i always enjoy trying to come up with a graphic-looking sketch. Plus, you can be a little more experimental when you're using a character that is easily identifiable like Batman.

This one is a standard, symmetrical-looking cape. Tried adding a lot of texture with the ink/inkwash.

This one is pretty similar to the previous one (i try not to repeat a sketch) but i started by drawing a random shape on the page and then work the composition of the cape around that shape. Fun to try.

Really like this one. The person looking for the sketch actually asked me to do a silhouetted image of Batman (which he'd seen me do for someone else earlier), which i roughed out on the page. I was gonna black out most of the page and leave his outline, just so it would be a little different but once i'd blacked out the background, i really liked the negative space left on the page. Added some rough ink lines, blacked-out the Bat signal and it was done. Really wish i had a good scan of this one. Ah well; a fuzzy photo will have to do.

2D SKETCHES: PART ONE
As promised, here's some sketches from the 2D Festival in Derry. They're photos, not scans, so the quality is a bit weak, but you get the gist of them. The Batman one was the very first sketch i did, so that's why it's probably a little more ...well ....boring. I was starting to find my 'groove' by the time i drew Gambit.

I'll post more sketches in a couple of days.

BACK AT WORK

Hi All. Sorry i haven't posted in a while; i was in Derry the bones of a week and had to wrap up issue 1 of 28 Days Later once i got back. Can't be missin' those deadlines you know. Plus, i'm trying to do a write-up on the Derry weekend but need to gather more photos, so in the meantime, here's a Batman sketch i did in Derry that someone was kind enough to send a photo of to me.
I'm off for the weekend, but normal services should resume on Monday.

BATMAN COMMISSION 2.0
Hi chums. Regular readers would remember this commission from late last year i did of Batman and his Rogues gallery.

Well, i'm finally getting around to giving it to my gracious benefactor but when i looked at it , it was looking a bit old and stale to me, especially considering the messier approach that's been creeping into my work of late. So, i decided to go in and add some greytone and splatter. I've been doing a lot of sketches with those tecniques over on the Eclectic Micks blog of late, and they've been getting a good reaction so they were worth trying out here.

Well, here's the finished piece; hope you like it Dave!

BATMAN SKETCH

Myself and my bud Will Sliney usually do a Superman/Batman jam piece once a year, with me drawing Batman and Will drawing Superman. Since he's in Canada this year, we did them separately. I did two to see which would match the Superman drawing he had already done. This is the second drawing i did; the first suited the jam piece better, where i like this sketch on its own. Check out the jam piece here.

BATMAN COMMISSION

Hey all. I usually do a big long post about the convention i've just returned from, but i didn't really take any photos, so i'll spare any BICS talk til i get some convention sketches sent to me to illustrate the post. In the meantime, here's a 'Batman-and-Villains' Commission i just completed. Man, i love Batman. This was great fun to draw. Tough though.

BAT SKETCH
While at Birmingham i did this little Batman sketch. Nothing fancy, but i quite liked it.

So, i thought for a larf i'd colour it up a little (this blog could do with a bit of colour from time to time). No need to point out how crap the colours are, i just thought i'd have a go at colouring something loosely, while trying to add a bit of texture to it.
